Name:
Neil Grant
Chapter:
Diamond Creek
What is your story?
I was born in Glasgow in the Year of the Fire Horse and came to Australia at age 13 to escape the rain and deep-fried Mars Bars. I’m a dad of 3 and a grandad of 1. I became a beekeeper during Covid to take up a hobby I would never stop learning more about.
How long have you been with TGBC? First Book?
I joined Collingwood Original at the tail end of 2019 and the book was “Trainspotting” by Irvine Welsh
How did you end up coming to TGBC?
My wife said I should join. I checked out the website and it was the best copywriting I’d seen in years. Then I went to my wife’s friend’s 40th and Tom and another couple of goons were there. The rest is history. Thank you, Amanda.
What is your favourite TGBC book?
I loved “Last Orders” for its depiction of male friendship and frailty. I also love (unpopular opinion alert) Camus’ “The Outsider”
Why are you a member of TGBC?
Being around a bunch of like-minded, kind individuals who are always there for each other is not just a once-a-month thing for me anymore. I love going to our meets, but I also love catching up outside of club nights for a beer or a chat.
What is a Tough Guy?
Someone who has the courage to be kind.
What is your favourite library?
Eltham Library - a mudbrick haven. Also love the shit out of the State Library of Victoria.
What book have we not read that you'd like to do at TGBC?
Please just keep choosing books for me. I love a set menu.
What's your favourite drink?
A negroni made by my wife on a warm summer evening.
What is something people wouldn't know about you if they judged you by your cover?
That I won the didgeridoo competition at Mataranka Homestead in 1991 (by default)
