What is your story?
I'm 26, originally a country boy from the Mid North Coast, NSW, who moved to Sydney as a young Goon. These days, I've split the difference and live in Newcastle. Between gym sessions and reading political philosophy, I'm deeply involved in the local rugby club—currently recovering from a shoulder reconstruction and reinventing myself from a classic prop to a breakaway flanker.
How long have you been with TGBC? First Book?
I have been with TGBC for two and a half years. My first book was The Promise by Damon Galgut.
How did you end up coming to TGBC?
Facebook targeted ads. I saw it the weekend right before my first meeting, crushed the book in a couple of days, showed up, and haven't looked back since.
What is your favourite TGBC book?
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Why are you a member of TGBC?
For the community and the camaraderie. I have made a lot of friends that I met outside of regular meetings.
What do you think a "Tough Guy" is?
Someone who stays in the fight when things get tough. Whether that's an injury, a setback, or just showing up when it's uncomfortable.
What is your favourite library?
Newcastle City Library
What book have we not read that you'd like to do at TGBC?
The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea by Yukio Mishima
What's the best thing about TGBC?
The discussions! The club brings together so many diverse men who bring unique insights, it's always a great conversation every single time.
What's your favourite drink?
3.5% Great Northern
What is something people wouldn't know about you if they judged you by your cover?
Behind the footy exterior, I'm actually a bit of a language nerd and have been learning Russian.
